Minutes of the July 2008 Monthly Meeting of the Shannon Town Council held in the Shannon Town Hall on Tuesday July 24th 2008 immediately following the  2008  Annual Meeting of the Council

Councillor Gerry Flynn, Meara Bhaile, presided

Present were

Councillors, Duff, Lambert, McKee, McCarthy, Hillery,  Mulcahy, McMahon and McLoughlin.
 
In attendance

Mr. Gerard Dollard – Town Manager and Tomás Mac Cormaic  - Town Clerk.

1/07/08 Minutes of June Meeting

Proposed by Cllr. McCarthy, seconded by Cllr. McMahon and resolved;

"that the minutes of the June meeting of the Shannon Town Council held in the Shannon Town Hall at 6.30 p.m. on  Tuesday May 27th 2008, having been circulated, be adopted and signed by the Meara Bhaile."

2/07/08 Correspondence

  1. A letter from Special Olympics Ireland was read and noted.
  2. A notice of "European Mobility Week" which had been circulated was noted.
  3. A letter from Macroom Town Council in relation to an annual "Famine Remembrance Day" was read and noted.
  4. A letter from Macroom Town Council relating to refuse charges for tenants in rented houses was read and noted. 

3/07/08 Report from Area Council Meeting.

The Meara Bhaile reported on items relevant to Shannon  discussed at the April Shannon Area Council meeting which included, the Arts Centre, Roads, Respond Housing, Concrete Fence at St. Aidan’s N.S., Park Hall, Warning Signs, Parking on Green Areas, Footpaths in Tullyglass Court and disposal of waste via sink units.  This information is available in more detail on the Shannon Website.

4/07/08 Reports from M.P.C. Chairs.

Cllr. Duff reported on the success his committee in arranging the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and on the celebration of 30 years of Special Olympics in Ireland.

5/07/08 Green Paper on Local Government

Councillors had been circulated with observations of both the A. M. A. I. and the Association of Town Clerks of Ireland on the Green Paper and were urged to make every effort to support the meeting arranged for the Hilton Hotel, Limerick on July 7th starting at 9.30 a.m.

6/07/08 2008 Community Grant Scheme

Clubs and Community Groups would be notified that applications are invited for participation in the 2008 Community Grant Scheme. Closing date for receipt of applications to be August 31st 2008. Application forms available in the Town Hall.

7/07/08 Proposal for Allotments in Shannon.

Proposed by Cllr. Lambert, seconded by Cllr. Mulcahy and resolved;

"that Clare County Council proceed with the plan to provide 38 plots in the Illaunmanagh area with fencing and car parking space.  Each plot to measure 10meters  X  15 meters ."

8/07/08 Register of Electors for 2009

Proposed by Cllr. Lambert, seconded by Cllr. McMahon and resolved;

"that Clare County Council would take steps to ensure an accurate and updated Register of Electors for 2009."
