Shannon Town Council Meeting Minutes July 2005

Minutes of the July monthly meeting of the Shannon Town Council which was held in the Shannon Town Hall on Tuesday June 28th immediately following the 2005 Annual Meeting.

Councillor Tony Mulcahy, Méara Bhaile, presided.
Present were Councillors McCarthy, Lambert, Flynn, McLoughlin, Duff, McKee, Hillery and McMahon.

In attendance : Mr. Gerard Dollard - Town Manager and Tomás Mac Cormaic - Town Clerk.

1/6 /’05 Minutes of the June Monthly Meeting

Proposed by Cllr Mc Carthy, seconded by Cllr.Flynn and resolved;
“that the minutes of the June monthly meeting of the Shannon Town Council held in the Shannon Town Hall at 6.30 p.m. on Tuesday June 7th 2005, having been circulated, be adopted and signed by the Méara Bhaile.

2/6/’06 Correspondence

  1. A letter from Michael Corry Area Manager of Social Welfare was read and noted.
  2. Notification of the Clare Tourism Conference in the Falls Hotel, Ennistymon on November 25th and 26th was read and noted.
    It was proposed by Cllr. McCarthy, seconded by Cllr. Lambert and resolved;
    “that each of the six councillors who are not County Councillors be authorised to attend this conference.
  3. Notification of the A.M.A.I. conference in Shannon in September was circulated.
    It was proposed by Cllr. Mc Carthy, seconded by Cllr. Lambert and resolved: “that each member of the Town Council be authorised to attend this conference.”

3/6/’05 Report from Méara Bhaile on Area Council Meeting

Councillor Greg Duff, the outgoing Méara Bhaile delivered a verbal report on decisions taken at the Area Council Meeting relevant to Shannon Town. This information is also available on the Shannon website.

4/6/’05 Reports from MPC Chairs

Cllr. McMahon reported that the Farmers’ Market is up and running, there will shortly be some publicity circulated and an official launching of the Market.
The Newsletter has been completed and is available on the Website.
One thousand copies of this Newsletter will be made available at specified locations for the convenience of those who do not have access to the web.

Cllr. McLoughlin reported that plans are continuing for the holding of a “Community Fun Day” in early September.

5/6/’05 Footpath on Gort Road

Proposed by Cllr. McCarthy, seconded by McMahon and resolved;
“that Clare County Council prioritise the repair and resurfacing of the footpath at Gort Rd. (Tully glass Crescent and Square side) as it is in a dangerous condition.”

6/6/05 Public Display of the Town Map

Proposed by Cllr. Lambert, seconded by Cllr. Flynn and resolved;
“In order to facilitate visitors to Shannon, that an enlarged version of the map of Shannon Town would be placed on hoardings at strategic at the entrances to the town.”

7/6/05 Signs for Rental Car Depots

Proposed by Cllr. Hillery, seconded by Cllr. McCarthy and resolved;
“that Shannon Town Council request all companies operating car rental services at Shannon Airport to erect additional signs to facilitate the return of rented cars.”
