Shannon Town Council Meeting Minutes January 2006

Minutes of the January Monthly Meeting of the Shannon Town Council held in the Shannon Town Hall on Tuesday January 3rd 2006 immediately after the 2006 Budget meeting.

Councillor Tony Mulcahy, Méara Bhaile, presided.
Present were Councillors Lambert, Flynn, McLoughlin, Duff, McMahon, McKee and Hillery.

Apologies from Cllr. McCarthy and the Town Manager, Mr. Gerard Dollard.

In attendance : Tomás Mac Cormaic - Town Clerk.

1/01/06 Minutes of 2006 Budget Meeting

Proposed by Cllr. Hillery, seconded by Cllr. McLoughlin and resolved;
“that the minutes of the Shannon Town Council 2006 Budget Meeting held in the Shannon Town Hall at 6.30 p.m. on Tuesday December 6th 2005, having been circulated, be adopted and signed by the Méara Bhaile.”

2/01/06 Minutes of December Meeting

Proposed by Cllr. Lambert, seconded by Cllr. Flynn and resolved;
“that the minutes of the December 2005 monthly meeting of the Shannon Town Council held in the Shannon Town Hall immediately after the 2006 Budget Meeting on Tuesday December 6th 2005, having been circulated, be adopted and signed by the Méara Bhaile.”

3/01/06 Correspondence

  1. A letter from Mullingar Town Council relating to a resolution calling for a lo-call telephone service to the Department of Social and Family Affairs was read and noted.
  2. An acknowledgement from Shannon Community Radio of a grant of €500 was read and noted.
  3. A preliminary notice from Clare County Council of a conference to be held in March was noted.

4/01/06 Report from M.P.C./ Chairs

Councillor McLoughlin reported on progress with the Neighbour Wood Scheme and with preparations for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Permission would be sought from Skycourt to have the reviewing stand in the Town Square.

5/01/06 Follow-up on Resolutions Adopted

Proposed by Cllr. McMahon, seconded by Cllr. Duff and resolved;
“that Shannon Town Council seek from Clare County Council a commitment that items brought to their attention and motions passed at Town Council regarding maintenance, safety and environment issues be dealt with within an agreed timeframe.”
The Méara Bhaile suggested that Cllr. McMahon give him a list of items not dealt with and he would have a report for him on these items at the February meeting.

6/01/06 Lights at the rear of Killian Park

Proposed by Cllr, Duff, seconded by Cllr. Hillery and resolved;
“that Clare County Council provide an up-date on their plans to provide public lighting at the rear of Killian Park. This road runs from Cronan Park across the bottom of Tullyvarraga Crescent and ends at Ard na Gréine.”

7/01/06 Possible Transportation of U.S. Prisoners through Irish Airports

Proposed by Cllr. Duff, seconded by Cllr. McMahon and resolved;
“that Shannon Town Council support the call from across the Irish political spectrum and from members of the public to investigate the possible use of Irish Airports by the U.S. Administration for the purpose of transporting prisoners for “rendition” through Irish Airports.”
This resolution to be referred to An Taoiseach, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Minister for Justice and to be circulated to all local authorities.”
