Elections
Local Elections 1982Elections for the first Town Commissioners were held on March 11th 1982. There were twenty six candidates for the nine positions on the Commission and after twenty one counts the Returning Officer, Roibeard O'Ceallaigh then Clare County Secretary declared the following nine people elected.
The first meeting of the Town Commissioners was held on March 15th 1982 in the Community Hall in Kincora Apartments where Brendan Regan was elected the first Chairman of the Shannon Town Commissioners. The offices of the Commission and the meeting room were in 14B, Fergus Drive and were rented from Shannon Development Co. Blaise Treacy the Assistant County Manager was the first manager of the Shannon Town Commission. Local Elections 1985The 1985 Local Elections were held on June 20th 1985. There were fifteen candidates for the nine places on the Shannon Town Commission. After eleven counts the following were declared elected:
Local Elections 1994The 1994 Local Elections were held on June 9th 1994 for which there were nineteen candidates for the nine positions on the Shannon Town Commission. After sixteen counts the following were elected:
Local Elections 1999The 1999 Local Elections were held on June 11th 1999 and sixteen candidates competed for the nine positions on the Commission. After twelve counts the following were elected:
Méara BhaileOn January 1st 2002 in accordance with Local Government Act 2001 Town Commissioners were discontinued and replaced by Town Councillors. At the March monthly meeting of the Shannon Town Council it was decided by resolution to replace the title of Cathaoirleach with that of Méara Bhaile. Local Elections 2004The 2004 Local Elections were held on June 11th 2004 and fifteen candidates competed for the nine positions on the Commission. After ten counts the following were elected:
Local Elections 2009The 2009 Local Elections were held on June 5th 2009 and thirteen candidates competed for the nine positions on the council. After ten counts the following were elected:
